Common Questions
“How do you protect me from lawsuits?”
I can’t promise you won’t get sued. Nobody can promise that. I can make your site as accessible as possible and give you a record of the work, so you can prove you’ve been actively working on compliance.
I start with the most obvious, most serious issues to advance fast. Those that help people the most. And I document my work thoroughly, to give you proof of what's been done.
“Is this just about avoiding lawsuits?”
No. It’s also about reaching more customers and giving them a better experience. A lot of businesses end up seeing it as a customer service upgrade.
“Our competitor just uses a simple widget, why can’t we do that?”
Accessibility overlays don’t actually make a site accessible. They sit on top and, in a lot of cases, make things worse for people with disabilities.
Overlays can also backfire legally. Some law firms in the US specifically target sites using them, since a widget is an easy tell that the underlying site isn’t accessible. And therefore the owner can be sued for ADA non-compliance. Businesses that install one often think they’re covered. They’re not. They’ve been sold something that doesn’t work.
In fact, one U.S. overlay company was fined $1 million for falsely claiming its tool could make any website compliant.
“How long does this take?”
Depends on your site’s size, how many issues it has, and what platform you’re on (some platforms make fixes easy, others make them nearly impossible). I usually start fixing the first issues in the second week of working together. A small audit can take a few days. A full audit checking every page for compliance with WCAG 2.1 depends on the complexity of the website. Code fixes times vary, anywhere from a day to a few weeks, depending on the complexity of the required changes.
“The price feels high.”
Accessibility work isn’t free, but it’s worth doing right. And it can genuinely help your business grow. We can start small: fix only what’s most critical first, and prioritize from there so you’re not paying for everything at once.
“What if I get sued before you’re done fixing things?”
I give you documentation of everything as I go: test reports, user testing records, a log of fixes, so you can show you’re actively working on compliance.
“Do you use AI for this?”
No. No AI can reliably test a site for accessibility or fix it on its own. People still need to test whether a site actually works for someone using a screen reader or navigating by keyboard.
“Can’t we just scan our site with one of these online automated testing tools?”
Even the best automated tools only catch around 30% of accessibility issues. They’re not enough on their own.
“What’s web accessibility, exactly?”
It's about making your website usable by as many people as possible. That might mean someone navigating with a keyboard instead of a mouse, someone who needs captions because they can’t hear video sound, or anyone who needs a bigger font to read comfortably. Accessible websites are easier to use and understand, and more comfortable for everyone, not only people with disabilities.
